History of Gebr. Stroomberg BV

In the early nineteen thirties, Mr H.H.G. Stroomberg started a livestock and meat trading company in Bennekom, the Netherlands. The business showed promise, and towards the end of the decade Mr Stroomberg decided to set up an abattoir. However, further development of the business stagnated until 1945 due to the Second World War.

After the liberation of the Netherlands, Mr Stroomberg devoted his energy to the business again, now located on Verlengde Maanderweg in Ede, and growth continued. New premises became necessary, and on 15 June 1959 a new abattoir and cold meat factory opened in Ede-Zuid. The business continued to flourish, and England, Italy and France became cornerstones of export. The good reputation and the expansion realised over the years attracted the attention of British multinational Union International, which purchased the business in 1980. Founding father H.H.G. Stroomberg left the business, although J.M. Stroomberg and B. Stroomberg remained in a management capacity for another year before leaving in 1981. In that same year the gentlemen founded Gebr. Stroomberg BV.
